The AnimeSydney Christmas Party of 2014 – Did we have a good time?

The AnimeSydney Christmas Party of 2014 was a huge success with a tonne of people coming into Manning Bar, and showing off their love for Anime and other Japanese pop culture. Whether it was people looking to get their blood rushing in battles on their Nintendo 3DS’s, cosplaying up as their favourite character or just there to have a good time, we had something for everybody to participate in. Let’s take a moment and have a look back to see what a great time we’ve had!

In the early hours just when the party is about to start, we hid 20 badges along the roads on the main campus of USYD, I was one of the execs who hid 5 of them along Science Road. Did any of you manage to find them? I hope I didn’t make them too hard to find! I heard many of the badges were in very obscure places and only the select few with eyes like a hawk could find them. Congratulations to those who found them! ヽ(*⌒∇⌒*)ノ

On the Merchandising table, there were a plethora of shirts, DVDs, blu-rays, boxsets, posters and other merchandise to be sold. The people who created the illustrations for the posters are very talented! They were fantastic, and I set my eyes on a Racing Miku Poster which was just a must have in my eyes. There was also one last “Senpai Please Notice Me” shirt and I managed to snag it so now I whenever I see senpai, he would surely notice me! Baby all I want for Christmas is senpaaaaaiiiii~! (๑・ω-)~♥”

We had roughly 20 or so people signing up for the Super Smash Bros and Pokemon Battles. The players were really strong, and you could tell that they were really focused and determined to win. I watched a bit of the Super Smash Bros battles, they were very exciting to watch and makes me want to buy the game and try it for myself! I gave all I could in the Pokemon battles, and in the end I couldn’t even lay a scratch on my opponent Jintech! Nevertheless, it was a fun game, and I would love to battle again.

The Art Wall was a popular attraction, we had many highly skilled artists draw on the wall and also many with less experience but brimming with creativity join in on the fun. There were a few masterpieces of Baek the President of AnimeUTS drawn on, the artist must have put a lot of effort and practice into portraying Baek as a muscular figure with thin legs to teach us to never skip leg day when working out at the gym! Nice work mate, you’re awesome! ᕙ( * •̀ ᗜ •́ * )ᕗ

In the lounge, many people were playing games, we hard playing cards, cards against humanity and other board games as well. People had a great time sitting around, playing together and making new friends. In the Weetbix challenge, each contestant had to eat 3 whole pieces without drinking any water to help. Their mouths were dry, they were thirsty for even a drop of water but nevertheless they pushed on and to claim their place as the Weetbix eating champion and win a cool prize!

The Trivia was fun, challenging and many of the questions were downright obscure. Some questions we knew the answer to but could not recall and when we finally made the connection, we’d kick ourselves. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ ︵ ╯(°□° ╯) At the start we formed groups of 5-7 people and had to decide the name of the team which is arguably the hardest thing to do. My group decided to be “Do you even pose?” paying homage to Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. The questions were tough, but I believed in my team and we managed to secure 3rd place however we tied with 2 other teams and in a decisive tie breaker, my team lost in a simple game of Rock Paper Scissors but nevertheless it was fun.

There were many people in cosplay as their favourite characters. I remember seeing 2 execs from SUAnime cosplaying as their new mascots, a Tsunemori Akane with a height complex who almost shot me dead because my Crime Coefficient was too high. There was also a really good Mikazuki Yozora and a really well done Kashiwazaki Sena and I had no doubt in my mind that they were indeed attractive girls but truth is as said by Admiral Ackbarr “IT’S A TRAP” (((( ;°Д°)))). Damn, I fell for it, gg well played!

The AnimeSydney Band performance was absolutely stunning, the atmosphere it created brought everyone together and it was a pleasure having to watch them play their instruments, and listen to their outstanding performances of popular Anime songs. The performers have been practicing tirelessly just for this very night, and on the night they pulled it off without a single hitch and were rocking it! ♬♪♫ヽ(´Д`)人(´Д`)人(´Д`)ノ♪♫♬ So kudos to them for providing us with such an amazing experience, I wish to them all the best in the future, and I’m also looking forward to see what they will perform next. I can’t wait! \(^o^)/

When the party was finally coming to a close, after spending hours partying through the afternoon and well into the night, it was time to announce the winners of the Trivia and Cosplay competitions. We also had so many prizes to give away for our raffle that we did more drawings than planned. We also had a booby prize, 2 unopened boxes of Weetbix were up for grabs in the raffle! After all that, the party was over and it was time to go home. I don’t wanna say goodbye to all the good people I’ve had fun with! (。┰ω┰。)

All in all, the AnimeSydney Christmas Party of 2014 was definitely in my opinion one of the best events held this year and we couldn’t have done it without you, the party-goer, your support and your love of Anime and Japanese pop culture. I would like to take a moment to thank the execs who helped out and special thanks to the AnimeSydney crew of 2014 for putting it all together. We hope that next year, we would continue to have fun together and as a new exec, I would like to say that it would be an honour for me to be a part of AnimeSydney and to be one of the people helping out behind the scenes.

Until next time!

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone~! ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆
